The simplification of the digital legislative framework should not result in a lowering of the level of protection of personal data and privacy guaranteed under Articles 7 and 8 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Any clarification or streamlining measures introduced by this Regulation should preserve the core principles and obligations of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and should not create new derogations or reduce data subject rights or the level of protection afforded to data subjects. This Regulation should aim to develop further the borderless digital internal market and a human-centric, trustworthy and secure data society and economy. Sector-specific Union law can develop, adapt and propose new and complementary elements, depending on the specificities of the sector, such as the Union law envisaged on the European health data space and on access to vehicle data.
