In the longer term, privacy-enhancing technologies may offer a more effective and more user-friendly alternative to current consent-management mechanisms. The Commission should, in cooperation with the European Data Protection Board and ENISA, issue guidance on the use and recognition of such technologies, without imposing prescriptive obligations before the necessary technical and economic assessment has been carried out.
